Sightseeing
Genoa, MORE THAN THIS
Genoa, birthplace of the explorer and navigator Christopher Columbus and capital of one of the main Italian maritime republics, between the XII and XV century, became a naval and commercial power at European level.
Nicknamed as “Superba” by the famous poet Francesco Petrarca, almost all of the historic center has been declared as a Unesco World Heritage Site. Especially “Strade Nuove” (Via Garibaldi, Via Balbi and Via Cairoli) and the complex of historic residences, known as “Palazzi dei Rolli”.
In the heart of the city, Piazza De Ferrari, overlooks Palazzo Ducale, Palazzo della Nuova Borsa and the Teatro Carlo Felice. Not far away is the cathedral, San Lorenzo, covered with the typical Genoese decoration of slate and marble.
Descending towards the sea, you will arrive at the tourist and cultural area of Porto Antico, which of course owes its fame thanks to the restyling curated by the Genoese archistar Renzo Piano.
The symbol of the city is definitely the “Lanterna”, the highest harbour lighthouse in the Mediterranean, reachable with a panoramic walk and location of its multimedia museum.
At the end of the beachfront promenade of Corso Italia, the fishing village of Boccadasse, famous for its pastel colored houses perched over the sea, gives a unique scenery for a break with typical Italian “gelato”.
